About this quiz

What you’ll practice

Preflop decisions start with recognizing which hands are worth entering the pot, and why. This quiz drills starting-hand strength across a mixed set of easy recognitions and tougher, close-call hands.

Each question uses 4 options and there’s no timer, so you can think through suitedness, connectivity, and relative rank without rushing.

Common pitfalls to avoid

Many players overvalue weak aces, dominated broadways, and low suited “pretty” hands that look playable but lose money in the long run. Another frequent mistake is treating all pairs or all suited connectors as equal, instead of noticing how quickly value drops off.

  • Overplaying offsuit aces (A2o–A9o) that are often dominated
  • Calling too wide with Kx/Qx hands that make second-best top pair
  • Overrating small suited connectors without considering how rarely they realize equity
  • Ignoring the gap between premium pairs and medium pairs in tough lineups
  • Mixing up suited vs offsuit value (e.g., KQs vs KQo)

How difficulty and length are balanced

Difficulty is mixed on purpose: some prompts are straightforward (premium hands), while others test the border between “open” and “fold” type ranges. Before you start, choose your question count and difficulty to match your goal—short sets for quick refreshers, longer runs for building consistency and reducing mistakes.
